Workshops September 2025–August 2026

Workshops are provided to enhance the understanding and skills of weaving and related topics. Non-members are welcome to participate at a higher fee.

  • Both workshops and monthly morning programs will be promoted to the membership through
    the Guild Forum at groups.io
    Workshops and monthly morning programs are open to non-members and members alike.

  • Registration on the day of an Afternoon Workshop or Field Trip will be accepted at the discretion of the Program Committee and Instructor. If accepted an additional fee of $10 will be charged.

  • Refunds will only be possible if the workshop or program is cancelled by the Guild.

  • In the unlikely event that a workshop must be cancelled, you will be notified directly via email and posting on the Guild Forum groups.io.

September 13, 2025 1-2:30 pm

Exploring Triangle, Peg looms and Little Looms
with guild members Leslyn Hall and Shannon Cunniff


   Embrace your inner artist. Explore something new. Maybe even reacquaint yourself with your weaving roots. Leslyn Hall and Shannon Cunniff will provide a variety of small looms (e.g. triangle, pin, inkle, darning/patching, and backstrap looms).
Some fiber will be available for you to play with and some informal instruction to get you started. Feel free to bring you little loom and any articles you've woven.

October 11, 2025, 1-3:00 pm

Organizing Study Groups with member Marty Reid


   Looking for a way to find support and camaraderie exploring specific weave structures, share topic-specific information and research, explore group weaving travel opportunities, learn weaving software, or flex your design muscle? Forming a Study Group may be the answer to exploring those ideas - and much more.
   Marty Reid will share information she gained from participating in a session on Study Groups during the online Handweavers Guild of America (HGA) Guild Development Conference in January of 2025.
   Marty plans to have representatives from one or more other Guilds on hand to talk to us via Zoom about how they use study groups. The presentation will include time to discuss how we might want to organize study groups in our Guild and possible topics of interest.

   Kate Smith will share her weaving journey from the early days when she apprenticed with Norman Kennedy, the creation of Eaton Hills Textile Works, her work at the Marshfield School of Weaving, and her current business, The Weavers Croft.
   Kate will share the history and mechanics of barn looms, provide samples of re-production textiles to discuss, and offer each participant the opportunity to weave on a barn loom.    Kate is co-organizer of the Textile History Forum with Rabbit Goody of Thistle Hill Weavers. The forum is offered in-person and via zoom August 1-3, 2025.

Winding Warps and Warping Tips & Tricks with Guild Members


   Winding your warp can be the single most important task to make dressing your loom quicker and more stress free.
   Guild members will demonstrate techniques and tools as well as hands-on supervision to broaden and improve your warp winding skills.
   Warping boards as well as warping mills and tools like the warping paddle will be available for registered attendees to try.    Warp control and handling approaches like cone control, counting strings, bout tying, single vs. double cross will be discussed. Attendees will be encouraged to share the discoveries they've made over their time weaving.

March 14, 2026, 1-4:00 pm

Powered up Practice with Christine Miller


   Christine Miller's workshop will expand on her February 14 "Design a Digital Vision Board" Morning Program and the work participants have accomplished using Padlet.
   Christine will guide a discussion of individual experiences and demonstrate how to expand the use of Padlet along with introducing and guiding participants in the use of her '8 Habits of Mind'.

May 9, 2026, 1-2:30 pm

Explorations in Silk with members Alison Levy and Layne Tharp


   Displays and presentations will feature member experiences weaving with silk and member collected silk from around the world.
   Participants will learn about the various types of silk yarn, where silk is currently raised, silk processing, and will have the opportunity to weave with silk. There will be a presentation about the silk industry in New England.
   Join Alison and Layne to share your experiences, ask questions, and experience silk in its many forms .

Directions to White River Craft Center

From I-89 take exit 4 onto Rte-66, head down hill to Randolph.

- At the stop sign, keep going straight (south on rte 12).
- Bear left (west) onto Rte-12 (N. Main St.),
- Go past Chandler Arts Center.
- Before the gazebo, bear left onto South Pleasant Street.
- Take the next road on the left, which is Randolph Ave. Kimball House is at the end of the street, sitting at the top of the hill.
-The drive to the right leads to a parking area.
