April 8, 9, 10, 2016 – Lucienne Coiffman
Classic and Nontraditional Rep Weave
In this round-robin workshop format, we’ll explore both classic and
nontraditional methods of rep weaving on 2 to 8 shafts. Every loom will
be set up with a different draft and a variety of warp materials. Using Block
design of weaves structure such as Krokbragd, Honeycomb, Shadow weave and more,
we can transfer the block design to rep weave and get a new look. Along with weaving
instruction, we will discuss drafting, designing, and color choices and the possible
uses for each finished piece. Students will go home with a portfolio of many different
rep samples. Handout fee is $15.00.
Instructor Bio
Lucienne Coifman, a former research assistant in biochemistry, started weaving over
40 years ago. She quickly made it a full time occupation and has taught weaving for
the past 30 years at the Guilford Art Center, The Creative Art workshop and in her own studio;
she has also conducted workshops throughout the Northeast and the Midwest.
For the past 30 years she has been studying and developing the many ways to use Rep Weave,
and other related warp-faced weaves, experimenting with the use of different fibers in the
process. Her main interest has centered on color interactions and patterns, using up to 8
harnesses and using pick-up techniques when needed.
Her book, REP, RIPS, REPS has just been published and covers most of her research in rep weave.
Her work has appeared in Shuttle Spindle & Dyepot, Handwoven, and has been included in many
juried exhibits. Her website is: www.lucienne-repweave.com
