From Backstrap to Jacquard Weaving--The Work
of Bhakti Ziek
In the afternoon we will visit her studio see her T-1
jacquard loom.
Bhakti Ziek is a weaver whose work has ranged from backstrap
weaving to digital jacquard. Her extensive exhibition record
includes work in the permanent collection of the Museum of
Arts and Design, New York City. She has lectured and taught
workshops internationally in The Netherlands, Great Britain,
Mexico and Canada, as well as all over the United States.
Her writings on contemporary fiber have been published in
many journals, including American Craft, Surface Design
Journal, and Fiberarts. She is the co-author, with Alice
Schlein, of the book The Woven Pixel: Designing for Jacquard
and Dobby Looms Using Photoshop. A former college professor
(Arizona State University, University of Kansas,
Philadelphia University), she currently lives in Randolph,
Vermont where she offers tutorial teaching and does her own
work. Ziek has a B.A. from SUNY at Stony Brook, NY; a B.F.A.
from the University of Kansas; and an M.F.A. from Cranbrook
Academy of Art.
